In this project we are going to be exploring the connection between stories and land. We will be working with 3rd grade to imagine what stories wake up for us when we explore Mission Trails. First, the class will create a KWL chart to record what they think they know about Mission Trails. Then, we will explore hidden stories that are not well known and discuss perspective, which stories are told more, which stories are left out, and which stories should be shared. After getting a foundational understanding of the histories of Mission Trails, students will engage in a week-long writers retreat where they go to Mission Trails along with indigenous storytellers and authors to find stories that live in the land. During exhibition, students will show their family members and community members around Mission Trails, tell what they know about the history of the land, and share their own narrative that they found while exploring.
